Grammer and Sinead

A piece of history. Thank you for posting this I am sure there are 24 families out there who would love to have this photo of their mother or grandmother.

They all look so smart and intelligent and happy. I'd say one couldnt get 24 four or five year old to pose so beautifully today.
I am not afraid of tomorrow, for I have seen yesterday and I love today.

I agree with Rocker about how well-behaved the girls appear - and this was back in the days when film space was precious - no opportunity to peek at the screen and try again.

In another life, I take lots of group pictures - mostly of children. It sometimes depresses me to reflect how often I encounter youngsters with either
- the attention span of a gnat
- a complete lack of awareness of what's going on
- those smart alecs who never miss an opportunity to 'mess up' the image (pulling faces, poses, etc)
It makes one wonder what's behind it all (assuming I'm not scaring the living daylights out of them).

Yes I agree with you Rocker /Michael/Strum
but we live in the New World now.
I think it was farmboy said that with digital cameras the the importance of real photographs are gone

kids are having a camera shoved in their faces from birth or even before :D if you know what I mean- at parties -christenings -communions -confirmations -weddings -there are always a posse of cameramen -
come to think of it what happened to all the heads who used to push their way up front with their shoulder resting vidio cameras ??
they are probably still making the HP payments :D :D :D

thats not taking away from the fact -that nowadays if there are a gruop of three even theres always one smartass-

to have your photo taken years ago was a very special ocassion-
an aunt or uncle always had a camera and you might have to wait forever to get the photos :D :D
but I suppose they were the innocent days

Back Row: Pat Mulhall, ? Teresa Kavanagh, ? ? ? Ann Murphy, Kathleen Tallant ?

Grammer.

Which Ann Dunphy do you think is in the front row? If is the same Ann Dunphy that I am thinking of, she wasn't even born in 1948.

I think that is Eileen O'Toole on the right hand side of Nellie Heffernan and Marie Mooney is behind Nellie, second from right.

Grammer posted the photo the first time and he cut one person out of the right hand side of the photo - it ended at the leg of the chair. When he posted the photo the second time there was the extra little blond girl and of course the little chap peeking through the door became more visible !

Dear all:
To save Grammer coming back to me with questions I have decided to break my silence.
Dunphy's lived off Library Road, either St. Mary Street or the one which ran accross the
end of it.
The photo was taken before most of the children moved to Sallynoggin. One girl in the
front row lived in Carriglea Gardens, can't remember her name.
I know all the faces in this picture but the names are gone. The girl peeping out the door
was probably from the next group to be photographed, they would have been lined up in
the hall waiting their turn.

There was no Ann Dunphy from St Brendans Terrace. They are my first cousins. The eldest girl, probably the one in the photo, is Kathleen. Mary, Pat Kinsella's wife, is about the same age as my sister, Ann.
Harjoe, I remember my Uncle Jemmy (as we called him) well. Worked all his life in Bovril. A lovely man.

Harjo, Dennis, Sputnik:

I gave the wrong name, I should have said Kathleen Dunphy. Give me credit for remembering her surname after
all these years. When we were all in school we never thought we would forget names, we are all nearing 70 at
this stage so please forgive my lapse.
