Something Rocker (I think it was) said before Christmas ,about the homeless and the lonely -stuck in my mind
So here's a sad but happy ending Christmas song-
It's a Kleenex job -nearly had me in tears and I wrote it
Maybe I was thinking of meself in the future dontknow dontknow dontknow dontknow
==========================
He wont be on his own come Christmas
-----------------------------
Well the nights are getting dark and longer
The days altho' bright are very very shorter
And decision time has arrived for old Bill
He has 3 days to make up his mind
Will he go.stay or hang back behind
He wont be alone come Christmas
-------
Well the guy called to the door last week
He smiled and said Bill you have a week
There's a place for you down in the County home
You'll have your own room, comforts and all
You can hang all your stuff on the wall
And you wont be on your own this Christmas
--Now Bill sat and he cried-tears flowed down his eyes
When he thought back on the good old days
He once had a wife and family
but they went their seperate ways
But he does'nt want to be alone -come Christmas
------------
Well that's the sad part------------
----------------------------
Well he went down to that home the other day
Was shown around and had to say
Everything looked so neat, spick and span
When they showed him his new room
TV, even a lock on his door
He knew he would'nt spend Christmas alone again
----------------------
Now he's sitting in the car
He's got momentos, photographs and his battered old guitar
And behind it all on his face -there's a little grin
As he walks up to the door
He looks back out once more
He wont be on his own come Christmas
-------------------
No he wont be on his own
Never again will he be alone
No sitting at the empty window pane
For there's another guitar player there
And they say there's a fiddle player
No he wont be on his own come Christmas ;) ;) ;) ;)
Words and music Tommy Knox.

I didn't find Grammer's song sad. The chap has been lonely at home with just his guitar and he spends his time looking out the window. Now, going into the home he will have other musicians and be able to spend his time making music...be like putting me in a nursing home full of Rockers who are chatterboxes and we could spend the time pulling people apart verbally and reminiscing...

In Grammer's memory I brought this topic to the top.

A very sad day for his family and friends as they gather to chat about the man.

I've been away since Christmas Eve and have just got the news about G.rammer. I feel so sad for his family, he was such a good guy and he'll be such a great loss to them. I'd known him since we went to the Tech together. You never want to have to go to a pals funeral but it would have been nice to pay my last respects and to meet all those who knew him for the great person he was. May he rest in peace.

Oh Denis, a sad day for you. There must have been great laughs with grammer at the Tech and over the years. The little I knew of him showed me his dry sense of humour and wit coupled with his talents and kindness. His family and many friends must be heart broken at the loss of such a great character.

The sentiments expressed on this site have been read by Tommy's family more than once. Again, his daughter
asked me to pass on the thanks of his family.

Like Denis I first met Tommy when we were in the Tech on Eblana Avenue, it all just seems like yesterday to me but
in fact it was over half a century ago!

Killer, Jimmy Ennis sends you his regards.

Tommy was a great man for collaboration. Thinking of him today with the imminent sale of the Music Club.

A French friend of his asked him to sing with him for his town's commemorations of WW1this is the result

Thanks for that Rocker, Tommy left us a great legacy with his lyrics and songs, makes me sad to think he is gone when I hear him playing and singing, I hope he's found a club for us when it's time to meet him again
