"Did you see that TV series years ago where Gerry Robinson went into a NHS hospital with all the above problems....he visited the hospital several times....talked to the staff..surgeons were going golfing on Friday afternoon...it was tradition or something..he came up with guidelines.....he turned the hospital around, clever man that he is."

The key to Gerry's success was he walked all over the hospital chatting informally to the staff. The staff at the coal face were the experts....they knew what worked and what didn't....Gerry spent a lot of time listening to them. The General Manager didn't do this....he spent most of his time in his office. He was preparing for meetings or having meetings with his bosses or his managers all the time. Run off his feet, he was ineffective in terms of improving efficiencies.
Gerry discovered that several theatres were lying unused because if I remember correctly the surgeons went golfing on a Friday afternoon!!! He changed practices, increased theatre usage, equipment usage.......efficiencies improved.

If only he'd have a go at our HSE!!!

It is the little things that really get me going and make we wonder if society is breaking down.
Yesterday we went up to Killakee to look at sheds. The road is narrow and winding and from Killakee the views are spectacular. BUT, BUT, all along the most scenic parts there was huge household rubbish dumping, Black bags, foodstuffs, paint cans and God knows what. Both sides of the road. First of all how do they stop for long enough on the winding road to unload the bags, second why would they want to destroy the place for everyone, why pick a scenic area? Just because gobshites wont pay a bin tax they prefer to drive into the hills to dump!!!..no cameras of course, no morals, no pride, nothing!!!
I am not afraid of tomorrow, for I have seen yesterday and I love today.

This is where the molly coddling hand holding nanny state approach gets you ........ like it or not, RESPECT is a dirty word. Money is where its at and all that matters is what you have to show off on facebook, be it photos of you on holidays or your latest new aquisition ..... theres no point in posting about how you cleaned up after yourself, where's the ego trip in that dontknow and sure isnt Johnny Foreinger paid to clean up !!! Paddy Irishman has become Paddy Englishman and Paddy the Pole is the new Paddy Irishman :P

Respect should be given and DEMANDED in return, starting with kids and all the way up .... but you only need to listen to some teachers stories about kids and bullying to realise that we are raising a lot of spoilt brats out there because far too many Mumies n Daddies cant be arsed with discipline and see it as draconial. In schools, there should be zero tolerance of disrespectful behaviour ... if Johnny is abusing his peers / teachers or environment, he needs to be called out on it and not ignored for fear of upsetting his parents. Start as you mean to go on, put respect on the school curriculum and have it graded on all exam results.

Been there, saw all that,it's disgusting and makes me fear for future generations.
What on earth are they going to inherit ? a world of crap?
Simon Reed has just broadcasted a two part TV series on Greece BBC TV, bloody terrifying what the Greeks are doing to their own country re
landfill & coalmining and general flouting of law. But, as you point out in your excellent post Rocker some of our own leave a lot to be desired.

This topic is 'solutions' oriented. So, a) identify a societal issue, b) provide your solution

Ok, it's good to identify an issue, but follow it up with a solution of your own or ask for a solution ....another poster may have one. wuu wuu

Rocker, I agree, it's disgusting behaviour........and it's probably going to get worse when charges for green bins start up in the summer.
People need to realise there will be consequences for this type of behaviour.
I would try to name and shame these individuals.....CCTV along the road in question....it's been done before.
Their names published in the local papers, for instance.
Community service comes to mind.....clean-up of fly-tipping sites and graffiti, would be pleasingly ironic.

With regard to SOME schools, times have changed BIGTIME Toss. I know a man teaches Math and Woodwork in Cabinteely Comp and he gets socks abuse off some of the students. If they disrupt the class and he asks them to leave they tell him to fk off and go to sleep on the desk. They come back after lunch so stoned they can't work on anything. He can't touch them and they know it. Their parents are no help either and most of them end up expelled!

Cleaning up such crap should become part of Community Service and
it should be used for youth as well as older offenders thus saving us
money by not sending them to prison.

Normally the people who dump like this are clever enough not to
leave anything identifying in the rubbish.

That is my point exactly .... the tail is wagging the dog and rest assured I could line up a lot more teachers like your friend and not in schools you'd expect either. Its a society issue, in some cases we are looking at third and fourth generation school drop outs and the family name can almost guarantee failure  Like it no not, the cannabis culture is thriving in our schools and a bit like the emperors new clothes, people see what they want to see or dont see as in the cases of stoned students. To be fair, some principals have tried to stand by their principles  but they soon realise the error of their ways as they get treated like a murder suspect by their board and Department Officials and shunned by peers for fear of the schools name being dragged thru the mud !!!

Tell me how you can teach a class that has over 50% of its students abusing drugs or alcohol on a regular basis and often doing so in the company of their parents ? A local neighbour built a bar in his garden shed and his 16yr old son regularly has his mates around for 'scoops and sessions' ..... this is middle class Ireland and the parents attitude is 'oh sure we can keep an eye on whats going on' BangHead The Garda were called on several occasions but are unable to act as nothing was sold, its private property and they cant prove that the alcohol was taken on site or on the street dontknow all the while these bastions of society are claiming childrens allowance without question .... great work lads.

STOP PAYING BAD PARENTS ... end of.

A radical suggestion to sort out the world.

The root of the avoidable ills the world suffers from is primarily men with their toxic hormone.....testosterone.
Loads of
Money and Power
are irresistible to men and they become corrupted by them. (This applies to women also.)
That's me, you, politicians, bankers, developers, cardinals, criminals and anyone with a pulse. No exceptions, you are not an exception.
There is no getting out of it, we are all corruptible because we are human.....homo sapiens.....or more appropriately homo saps.
So this model of human is not working as we would wish......agreed?
Base emotions of
Greed, anger, envy, abuse of power get in the way of our being consistently good humans.
The current arrangement of homo saps with testosterone has resulted in the following:
War, genocide, rape, torture, criminality, physical abuse, mental abuse, drug abuse, alcohol abuse, global warming, massive waste of resources, destruction of the Eco system etc etc.
So let's get rid of the xxxxxxxs............for a better model of human.
A new model of human is urgently required to replace the current corruptible model.

Solution:
Genetic engineering is applied to all humans

Removal of testosterone from men.
Removal of base emotions in every human. This is key.
Anger, greed, hate, envy etc.....all removed. Suicide eliminated.
Love, respect, creativity, philanthropy, altruism, nurtured.
Reproduction by IVF and incubator to free women from childbirth.
Parenting now divided equally between the sexes.
Machines take over running the country at national and local level.
Machines replace politicians, judges, inspectors, auditors, ombudsmen etc.
Machines are impartial and incorruptible in the presence of lots of money and power.
Safeguards in place to filter out hacking etc. Hacking eliminated.
Impartial machines allocate resources according to greatest need.

Outcomes:
No more war, torture, rape, physical attacks.
Drug and alcohol abuse are eliminated.
Crime becomes obsolete, no need for prisons now.
No more ghettos or discrimination.
An equal society.
Everyone benefits from a beautiful childhood, education and employment.
Free health insurance for all.
Free education for all.
Humans turn to saving the planet instead of wrecking it.
Resources are conserved.
Driverless cars eliminate road accidents.
Seniors are respected and well treated.

Which world would you choose?

"What we need is a great big melting pot"
"Do not go gentle into that good night,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light".

Skynet & Hal will oversee everything.
Solent Green will also be in full production.

Once Genetic engineering takes over your happy world -the humanoids will then suddenly long for freedom -
Freedom of choice -freedom of thought and just freedom from the elite who will be overseeing all of this New World-
Wont work-
