Well, seen as you asked. I have recently realised that as I get older , I have a tendency to jump right in without
thinking and sometimes this gets me in a pickle so I thought it best to take myself off elsewhere for a bit and cool my ardour.
But I'm back now , so watch out!! evillaugh

These are a grand selection of photos Jemser, they give a great sense of what it's like there. I would love that cycle trip and goes to show what can be done with old railroads, I think there has been effort here to do something similar, I'm nearly sure they've used part of the old Westport to Achill Island railway for a cycle track. No need to tell you to enjoy your holliers, it's very clear you are doing just that :D and, more photos please !!

Thanks Keeper, yes you are correct the Westport one is called the Western Greenway and I have seen it but not cycled it yet, we need more of them. Thanks for your comments, I'll post more as soon as possible, but I need to get out in this beautiful weather and enjoy this place. Going to Border Bash Music Festival tonight in State Street Bristol, TN. State Street will be closed and a stage with musicians, vendors and a classic car show, all this in about 25 degrees of heat.

Jaaaz these yanks and Irish yanks don't know they're born at all. Here are a few photos on my son's house in Tennessee.

The living room, with high ceiling and high window.
Image

The dining room, leading out to back deck.
Image

The kitchen.
Image

The Deck, which is accessed from the sunroom or dining room.
Image

Garden shed, big enough to live in, they have a gym in it.
Image

Side of house, double garage and steps to sunroom. Also my hire car.
Image

Me cutting the front lawn.
Image

Also me struggling to keep the "lawnmower" in a straight line.
Image

They also have 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms and a home cinema room in the basement and all this for less money than you could buy a house in Sallynoggin. Also no income tax in the State of Tennessee. Jainey mac, did you ever feel like you were getting ripped off.

Absolutely beautiful house and garden (if it can be called that).

With no taxes what pays for roads, streetlighting, etc.?

Jemser, ye can't go to Tennessee and not get a picture of yourself at 706 Union Ave Memphis. At least with all your fantastic photos, get a picture of a '64 red stock Dodge.
Good work. Snowy's photos make me touch my childhood, yours open my world. 8-) 8-) 8-)

Bugrock, I'm in Bristol North East TN on the border with SW Virginia. Memphis is 500 miles away and I ain't going there this time, it takes 8/10 hours to drive there. So I'll try to find the car for you, or another super car.

Jemser:

Great photos. Your son is a lucky fellow to have so much at such a young age.

How does the state raise money if there is no income tax? I thought income tax
was a national thing and then state tax was for the local area. Please tell us
how they do it??????

Navanman, the USA is a very diverse society, I don't know if you have ever been here. But where my son had his first house as you moved along the road it went from 1 million dollar houses on one end to trailer homes on the other end. But Tennesse is very scenic and NE Tennessee is really beautiful, the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Smoky Mountains, the wonderful Blue Ridge Parkway drive, lots of State Parks and National Forests. So it is a very beautiful part of the USA and the people are very friendly.
We are now down in South Carolina and it was 90+ degrees as we drove along today, we have had a walk on the beach and viewed some of the beautiful Golf courses on Kiawah island where we are staying. There are signs on every pond warning you of alligators, I'll try to get a photo of one or two. We had dinner at the Bohicket Marina just before entry onto the island and made our way to the condo we have rented. It has two bedroms and two bathrooms, a large living room/kitchen area and a dining room and back porch that overlooks a large pond with some alligators resident in it. So tomorrow we'll see some more of this area near Charleston SC.
Sinead, no income tax in Tennessee, they do pay Federal taxes which are 15% of total gross income. They pay 9.5 sales tax, property tax of abouyt $900, $360 a year for refuse removal no weight restrictions, $20 water. Electricity seems to be cheap, car insurance expensive, car tax noin existant only $35 a year, petrol $3.25 a gallon, eating out much cheaper in the USA and food in the supermarket is super cheap and in quantities you can only imagine. Also I heard a politician on the radio here the other day saying that America taxes it's citizens too much. Now don't get me wrong there are a lot of things wrong with the US, but value for money and ripping off their citizens isn't one of them.

look out for me old mate Peter and his wife Marie who are in South Carolina for the past few weeks and still have 2 weeks to go. 8-) The house looks massive and they probably get better weather there for most of the year than we do, that wouldnt be hard! Wouldnt like to be paying the fuel bill in the bad weather though. Mind you with our rocketing fuel prices they could probably heat it for less than we could heat their garden shed here. Great photos and giving me a longing for my trip to the States in September.
