I never heard of deposits for Corpo houses before, Rocker. I reckon there would have been a few ghost estates around if that had been the case!

Never heard of that either -
I think it was a weeks rent down when you got the key.

As far as I remember it was 50 pounds. I didn't ask too many questions but, whenever we moaned about our damp old wreck of a rented house we were told if only we had 50 pounds in 1950 something we would have had a new house in Sallynoggin.....I'm a wannabee Sallynogginer as well as everything else.

think you might be right there Sinead--
Ahhhh it's too long ago

I do remember That when Beechwood was coming on stream -We put our names down -but did'nt have any luck
think the deposit could have been anywhere between 50-200 lids ----
But I think normally for a Corporation house -it was a weeks rent upfront and they handed you the keys
But the secret back then of getting a house was -have more children-
So in actual fact the state was behind babbby procreation
more babbby babbby babbby =house

I think this incident happened at the Junction of Station Road Victoria Road and Vico Road.
It seems to be either the Black & Tans or Auxiliaries.
I dont know much about it.

I have a vague recollection that that 'photo is a reconstruction made for an old movie !
Can't imagine the 'Tans or the auxiliaries posing for or permitting 'photo's to be taken during an 'operation'.
But, I could very well be wrong !! :? :? :?

I hope you are not wrong because those boys on the ground would be very happy, if its only a film.
It looks a bit ominous. If you notice the Tan has the gun cocked .
Is that horse dung at there feet? Its hardly a prop.

Is it possible this might have something to do with the
Wyattville shootings?

I remember seeing a plaque on the wall in the laneway that leads to Daleview.
I think there was someone killed there. You might be right Sinead, there could be a connection there.
Must go back to take a look at it.

If my memory serves me right I think it was Enviro knew the story being both photos and you're both right, one was real and the other from a film. Give him a shout if you're on farcebook. ;)

If Jamie Moran is looking in on the site he will be able to clarify things.
There was quite a skirmish on Wyattville Road with the roads from the
railway station and the big tree closed off for the duration. I am sure
Jamie will have all the info for his new book.

I believed these photos were staged and used as propaganda for the times that were in it, I also seem to remember Enviro filling us in with the details as Strum mentioned, did we not tease this out some time ago on the site or do all the posts get lost as well as the photos.

Yep that rings a bell Keeper, that they were staged. It should be here somewhere. The search function, or you could look up Enviro in the memberlist and there's an option to search all the users posts. It can be tedious though depending on how many posts they have. Good luck. ;)

Must have been before my time on the site. But I still find the photos interesting and topical.

They are TT, and the more you can post up for us the better ! and thanks for doing so. As Strum suggested I tried to go back over the site and I was disappointed to see so many photos missing, replaced by an Image Shack logo  so hopefully you can find some more for us.

Thanks Keeper
Very encouraging to hear that from you.
This is a brilliant site and would be a shame to let it fade away as the saying goes "You dont know what you have until you lose it"
So with a bit of effort we can all make it a better forum. Watch out for the photos.

Haven't been around the site the last while, been too busy enjoying the weather!!! I remember seeing the photo of the Vico in a book by (I think) George Morrison about the Civil War. I'm sure that he noted that it was staged. I'll see if I can dig up the book and see if he's referenced the photo to anything.
