Only another 5 days to the longest day and then our nights start closing in again  Jordo,s photo of the sun setting was probably taken around 10 or 10 30 last night.I was on the Noggin road around 5 30 am yesterday morning and took this one, hadnt got time to wait the few minutes for a full sunrise. All the same, we must have a good 18 hours of daylight at the moment.

There was indeed a quarry on Ulverton, it was in behind the big old house called Ulverton, when it's days as a quarry were over it filled with water and became a big pond, it was full of huge coarse fish like Chub etc, don't know who put them there,it was filled in and the land developed for building, forgot to mention it was a great place for wild duck as well, somebody from Dalkey might give us some better information.

I don't remember the Quarry, but I remember the pond. It was filled in and South Winds was built on it sometime in the sixties. A friend used to live beside it and we were always warned away from it as kids, but that didn't stop us, of course!! :D
I believe that there was another one where Dundela Park is and you can see that some of the garden walls have subsided towards the Castlepark end.

Yes, you are correct, it was in the 60s and I could'nt remember the name of the house, thanks for that, never heard of the other one in Dundela, interesting tho',

While I was going through the DunLaoghaire Council website I thought of the heading of Jordo's post.

Read it again. Then log on to the various proposals on the DunLaoghaire Council page!

http://www.dlrcoco.ie/media/media,7284,en.pdf

The various pages have "what do you think" questions. Well what do you think? Have you told them.

I was moaning last week about the Council then on a cold frosty, albeit sunny, morning last Tuesday I walked the pier. At the top there is a great little rubbish bin....a solar compactor...though I rarely say it...Well done the Council. It is clean, user friendly and if it works efficiently it's a great idea.

We forget how much sun shines on us but, I have a load of solar lights in the garden and they are shining bright all winter.
