I'm renaming this stretch "Ankle Breaker City"
Seriously this stretch was a blo*dy nightmare to walk. Not only do you have the stones but they are covered in seaweed aswell. doesn't look bad at all from the photos, but I can assure you I will not be walking this way again if I can ever help it.

Thanks Ted, I appreciate that. Go and find the Starling nests...just amazing to watch. I'll bet you could take some goodies there. It is just past the Shankill entrance to the beach and towards Bray.
At least you can drive down to the entrance!

Snowy, see what I mean about the tide in the above photo. The full tide line is verrrrrrry close to the cliffs here.
You could probably climb up here but in other spots you would just be stuck as you can see futher along.
I just remember this because me and my little bro walked home this way about 35 years ago and we were cut off by the tide, had to go back and climb up and then follow the cliffs along the golf club. :-|

Whats left of the old breakwaters...first photo they are just under the surface. I'm sure these were built to help stop erosion of the cliffs. Why were they never rebuilt I wonder?

Great stuff there Strum, I have walked that route many times and have nearly broken my ankle on those stones. A year or two ago, we had English friends over with their young daughter and I suggested the air show in Bray for the Sunday. I made them walk from those steps in Shankill all along the stony beach to Bray and of course then we had the walk back on the main road. The young one kept giving me dogs looks.  :D Ah but she forgave me in the end.

I met a Geologist a couple of years ago and he told me some things about Killiney to Bray beach.
Spud said before that there was Gold in the Wicklow Mountains, and people have been known to find small veins of Gold in rocks on the beach. I don't know how true that is cause my back is broken from looking for the last 8 years or so and zilch. But jewellers comb Killiney beach because there are many types of semi precious stones out here...never found any of them either...spose you have to know what to look for.
I have pieces of Lava at home and a large collection of Fossils and they facinated me till I met this guy. There is apparently an dormant volcano out in Bray somewhere
Does anybody know any more about this?

Heres a typical Fossil from my walk. bottom right of the stone is the imprint of a "Trilobite" about 250 million years old.

Hahaha Farmboy, jaze was I getting daggers from the youngest dog Candy, she didn't know WHAT was happening.
Admittedly she is overweight a tad lazy and won't go for walk's sometimes unless dragged on a lead at first, but I think she shed a few pounds this day. Haha!
