Love October...

LOVE driving through autumn colored hills,
trees aglow
as the last of their summer greens surrender
to the deep reds, golden yellows
and fiery oranges of fall,
the sound of laughter that comes spilling across the fields,
as giggling children, their noses and fingertips pink and cold,
bob for apples and tumble onto hayrides,
whispering excitedly about Halloween costumes
and which pumpkins to pick for carving this year!

Love October...

LOVE the smokey smell of sugar
as marshmallows hiss and tan and melt
on skewers held over a glowing fire pit,
steam rising off a cup of hot spiced apple cider,
gazing at the huge milk glass moon
as it climbs up into it's cobalt cradle, ablaze with stars,
the crisp rustle of the leaves, the hoot-hoot of owls
and the flashes of bats' wings in the moonlight,
ripen the atmosphere, and ready
friends and family for stories of ghosts and goblins and...

Love October...

LOVE rainy Sundays,
the rhythmic pounding on the roof and pitter-pattering on the windows,
the dog asleep on the floor next to me,
and the cat curled up at my feet on the couch
underneath my big, thready, old comforter,
while I watch old movies on TV.
Nothing like a rainy night, love it, even love singing about it,
something low and slow and bluesy, and
while the last of the drowsy embers crackle and spit in the hearth,
I drift away on the soothing sounds of the wind, whistling and moaning it's lullaby!

LOVE October...
