yes, sad indeed Navanman, he came across as a lovely man. Dont know if he lived in the Dun Laoghaire area but he did spend quite a bit of time there over the years. My brother,s father in law died about 25 years ago from that awful Motor Neuron disease. Heard Jimmy Magee on the radio today talking about his poor son who also died from it at age 51. Hopefully some day soon they,ll find a cure.

Sad news indeed .I watched the RTE news yesterday evening and Sharon Ní Bheoláin was visibly upset as she read the announcement.
I watched his documentary about coping with MND and he came across as a very positive and extremely likeable man.
May he rest in peace.

Here's another guy from our past

Tributes are being paid to radio legend Bob Gallico, who passed away at the age of 83.

Bob was a newsreader on the original radio Nova in Dublin in the eighties, and was best known for his distinctive delivery and quirky sense of humour.

A New York native, Bob returned to the US in the 90's, and continued to work in broadcasting right up until his illness before he died
RIP.

My God - 83 years of age

I remember him so well with his American twang accent and it seems like only yesterday.

That is really hard to believe.

May he Rest in Peace

Gosh that makes me feel old reading about Bob Gallico R.I.P
I remember listening to him on Radio Nova and I loved his accent. Didn't he have his own show too and not just read the news?
I used to phone up radio Nova from the local phonebox and ask the DJ to play whatever song I was crazy about at the time and I
would ask them to announce it first so that I could press the record button on my Nordemende cassette/radio player....and they used
to do it too :D :D Rest in peace Bob and thanks for the music......

Sad to relate the news of the death of Charles Meredith ( known to all as Chas) last Wednesday. We knew Chas from the Railway Preservation Society of Ireland where he worked tirelessly restoring old railway trains and engines and all the tough ancillary work that goes with that.A more jovial, convivial, knowledgeable, kind, caring and sharing gentleman we have yet to meet,

His other great love in life was Jazz and he broadcast and preformed as a musician under the name AKA Rock Fox of the Merrion Gates. Chas was a lawyer by profession before he retired. Many of you may have heard him perform over the years at Sachs or the Pavilion. May he rest in peace. Heaven will be filled with Jazz music.

Here is a snippet of him playing Sax and trumpet from 1982

Liam Ryan sadly passed away last week in Wexford after a long illness. Liam was married to Patty Scully RIP ,they lived in Oliver Plunkett Ave He was involved in monkstown boys football. Liam moved down to Wexford in the 90s after Patty died. He was originally from Crumlin & he worked for Breen electrical &. later The board of works. Liam was a giant of a man in stature & spirit. He was a kind . genuine person & my husband & I feel privilaged to have called him our friend. RIP Liam.

Sorry to hear about Liam Ryan , Liam and Patty had a mobile home in Kilmuckridge where I had a mobile for 25 years,, Liam organised games for the children on the site in the early day as well as football every night for all ,Liam was devoted to Patty and was devastated when she died.Liam kept on the mobile for a few years after because Liam loved fishing , sold on the mobile to a friend of mine a couple of years later and went to live some where in South Wexford. MAY HE REST IN PEACE.
