Searching for ancestors - follow the money trail

A very useful site to search for the will of your ancestor is this one:-

http://www.tinyurl.ie/8ff

It provides an index of all grants of probate since the beginnings of the state thru to the 1980s with a guide to how to find later years.

Found both my grandfathers and my dad there very quickly

Great link Gulliver,

Not many of my lot left wills but it makes interesting reading just to see the amount of some estates. Can copies of the wills be purchased in the National Archives? or is it the probate office?
I am not afraid of tomorrow, for I have seen yesterday and I love today.

I have obtained copies of wills in the Probate Office, which is up beyond Smithfield, one of the new buildings. The Luas will take you there.
Not all will are probated and the probate may bear no relation to the time of death. One of my relatives died in 1968 and the will was not probated until the 1990's

Probate has to be taken out by the Executor/s, there is no time frame in which this must be done.
I know of a couple of cases where persons due to inherit have taken legal action against the
Executor/s to ensure probate was started.
Where there is money, even a whiff of it, there is trouble and dosh for the legal profession.

Took Gulliver's advice today. i have been searching for my Gt Gt grandfather William Conway whom I know lived in Mulgrave St and Paradise Row but I thought he was a blacksmith. Today I looked at the Wills on Familysearch and found that he was a shoemaker he died in 1910 and lived at that time in 2 Summerhill Cottages, Sandycove....wonder did he have his shoemaking business in that cottage. Does anyone know where they are or are they gone by this time????
