Yep I have to say I like Win 10-
Faster start up-
It's kinda like Win7 & with additions
However now Groove music is trying to take over as my default player -so no way.
It's supposed to be hard to get rid of it---

Overall Dancer I'm happy with Win 10-- now I use a PC by the way.

Thanks Grammer hellllo It started up a bit faster this morning . Gonna get my neighbour to have a look and work some magic.
He works in IT so this will be a doddle for him .I hope

A few weeks ago my little Acer laptop died. Years of photos and info are on it! Big silly me didn't back up.
Off to PC World and heard the worst FUBAR(if you don't know don't ask what this means!). But the man said if anyone can fix it or retrieve the info it will be "Back from the future" in Dún Laoghaire Shopping Centre. So tomorrow I'll take it in and let you all know the story.

You can get the hard drive removed and then transfer the files that you want onto a new hard drive .
Just make sure you have enough space on the new drive . Best of luck with it .
Next time buy an external drive to hold your photos and other important stuff. They're cheap as chips
these days .

Well the crowd in DúLaoghaire shopping centre turned out to be just fine. Darius looked and discovered my hard drive was O.K so got it put on an external hard drive and it works perfectly on this machine. All photos and data retrieved. Happy woman!!

Nice one Rocker. May I inquire as to how much it cost? Just wondering because I was quoted 120 quid years ago in a Shop in Camden Street, when my first pc had a crash and burn. I couldn't afford it and did exactly what Bugs mentioned, a data recovery program. Free. ;)

50 Euro. He took out the hard drive. Tested it that it was O.K then put that drive in an portable hard drive. Ten minutes and the job was done. All the data is good. My big worry was seven years of research on a family data base and that is saved.

No Dancer. That laptop was ancient and wrecked so the hard drive is in a portable Hard Drive Enclosure and it plugs into another computer I got for my big birthday this year!!All the info is saved and this new computer is so much quicker and windows 10 and all bells and knockers....that will give Toss more ammunition.

I have a new desktop and got it loaded with windows 10 etc at the shop. I basically only use it for my e mail. Facebook, Google and family research. I don't want any bells and whistles.
It keeps pestering me to download apps...I haven't a clue what these are and I'm living without them so don't think I need.
It also keeps binging and telling me
"your Outlook accounts settings are out of date"
Why would I want an Outlook account.
My question is how do I TURN OFF these annoying requests?????????

A little tricky Rocker because you have to go into the registry. Try following the steps in the link.

1. Don't touch the registry1
2. See 1
3. It should be possible to uninstall some pre-installed squatware. Click on the Windows thingy and search for Uninstall.

Will do. I love "squatware"  ..they installed all kinds of shopping channels and search engines which I don't use...as I get more proficient I'll get rid of them too.

Will proceed with 1 and 2
