Hi Everybody

Postby Zirco » Tue Sep 22, 2015 2:06 pm

Hi Everyone,
I only recently became a member of this site, but have visited it a good few times over the last year or so. The humour, info, links etc is great on here, well done you guys and gals. wuu
I was brought up/(dragged up) on Oliver Plunkett Road. Talking about 1950 to 1956 or so. Lots of playing on the Road, playing in the Square, trips to the seaside, trips to Dunedin, going for messages for my mam and sometimes going to the bookies to place a bet for my dad, getting into trouble, getting cuts and scrapes. The back door was on the latch so no issue getting in and out.
School was St Joseph's Orphanage, then C.B.S. Eblana up to Inter level,,,,,,,,good bits, bad bits, tough discipline, verging on physical abuse. Wouldn't be allowed nowadays, thank goodness.
So, I'm looking forward to participating and hopefully learning more about my family history.

Wekcome Zirco, from an ex-Kevin's Villas boy. Sounds like you may have been at Eblana round the same period as Denis, Harjoe, Slipper, Jabra, and myself. What years?

Thanks for all the welcomes, very kind.
I was born in June 1946, so conceived in September 1945, a most important date as you will have realised....the date of my conception! No, far more importantly, the end of the Second World War in Europe. So I reckon I am here on this mad, exciting, dangerous, whirling planet because of a celebratory whatchamacall to mark the end of the war. And I'm very grateful for it. wuu wuu
So start of school for me was in 1950 or 51. Off to St. Joseph's (Orphanage) with me and my schoolbag and not a care in the world. Serious tears at 'the parting'; into the classroom I went. The morning went fast, we were let out in the yard for lunch, but I thought school was over so off I went home! I was in trouble from day one and so it carried on in similar vein.
To be continued perhaps, but now to find the correct forum for a family history question. Bye for now :D

Hi Slipper, Am I right in thinking the Farm was built around 1940 or so? I vaguely remember, circa 1950, gas ceiling lights in the bedrooms. I definitely remember my Da's winter coat being used to cover us in the bed. :D

Hi Toss, No story I'm afraid. I just made it up off the cuff and feeling a bit frustrated when registering for the fifth or sixth time. Verification was not forthcoming for months and months....it's great to be a member finally.

Many apologies about the registration. I get overwhelmed with so much with spam it can be difficult to filter through it all. I thought you were the leader from Planet Zircon, Image and we're a bit fussy about allowing Aliens in here.

Anyway you made it at last. Welcome to the site Zirco. :D

Welcome aboard Ben Zirco great to hear from you. I think you are right about the
building of 'The Farm' - I was born in 1944 and can remember my aunts and uncles
moving to there from flats in Dun Laoghaire.
Do share with us some of your stories, we love hearing from new posters. If you
have been a guest on the site you will know we are full of banter.

Hi Navanman,
Tks for the welcome. Yes, I lived on Oliver Plunkett Road from birth (1946) till age 18 when I kinda ran away to sea. Zirco
