Really hate Hava Nagila. Was hired to play (DJ) at a Jewish wedding. Got all the music prepared, especially the one mentioned, when the fella/celebrant/MC, whatever, finished his God spiel, wished the couple a long and happy life, signalled me to cue the song, and then said in a loud voice, with hands raised - Praise Jesus - In the name of Our Lord, Amen.

Stairway to Heaven - The Far Corporation - Awful version, verging on parody. Takes an original, strips the essence away and adds nothing to it. Bleuccch!!!

Brown Girl in the Ring/Rivers of Babylon actually, anything by Boney M. - Irritatingly annoying way to sell millions. Incidentally, produced by Frank Farian,
who also created and produced the Far Corporation.

Take it on the Run - REO Speedwagon - Earworm hell. Takes me days to get it out of my head. "Heard it from a friend who heard it from a friend heard it
another you've been messing around" - not going to be very accurate as third hand news.

Hey Jude - The Beatles - Just hate it. Na na na nanana na nanana na - enough said?

America (We're coming to) - Neil Diamond - He's written some great songs, this just doesn't work for me. Another earworm.

As an aside, what about pointless lyrics? One that comes to mind is "Jailbreak" by Thin Lizzy-

"Tonight there's going to be a jailbreak, somewhere in this town"

As Jimmy Carr said "Err, try the jail, Phil".

Sweet Caroline...I like Neil Diamond but if I,ve heard that song once I,ve heard it a thousand times, gimme a break.

Amarillo by Tony (or should that be Toni) Christie (or should that be Christy ;) ) all that stupid clapping bit after the sha la la la la la la la gives me the pip.

Simply the best by Tina Turner (or should that be Turnyour stomach) nuff said.....well not really, its just that every time i hear that song I visualize her in her short skirt and high heel boots and I can think of a lot nicer things to visualize. aawhip

The fields of Athenry by paddy Reilly.....something similar to Sweet Caroline, overplayed and when you go to Spain, you cant go a night without someone singing it, all the worse if its done in Karaoke by someone who,d give kermit the Frog a run for his money

The town I love so well by Phil Coulter...takes forever and theres too many verses, another song that reminds me of being drunk and to my horror finding myself actually singing along with it!

I,m gonna sneak in a 6th one here and believe me I could go on and on........

American Pie by Don Mc Clean .....could be used as an alternative to counting sheep, again too many verses. In fact the B side of the single was a continuation of the A side with different words and began; Helter Skelter...and on and on and.......Always reminds me of a pal who sang it as his party piece and sang both the A side and then the B side and took about 15 minutes....I mean just how many times can you say bye bye to Miss American Pie???? I rest my case.
Walter Mitty is NOT a figment of my imagination.
