Wow Toby the girl beside your Mam(on the end) looks remarkably like my cousin, you know how they say looks pass through the generations I'm wondering could it possibly be her mother.......It's an uncanny resemblance  ...I'll have to check some dates and get back to you. ;-)

This is a pic of my Communion class, with Fr Moroney (remember him?)

Im the only one not in the pic cos I had scarlet fever before the big day and was only let out to go to the Church and back home. It rained cats and dogs that morning and of course we didnt have cars in those days.
My mam had to bundle me up in a coat (the only winter coat in the whole class) and use a big umbrella to get me up to the Church.

I couldnt even show off my dress.

Mind you, not sure I wanted to - my aunt made it and put NAVY BLUE smocking on it. I was the only child in the class who was'nt in all white. I dont think I ever lived it down!!!

:( :( :( Yep missed out on everything!!
The only communion photo I have is a small black and white one of me and me grannie taken in the little yard outside our front door.

The day itself, every chance I got I hopped in and out of the house into the yard - trying to attract the neighbours attention

Me mother kept hauling me in and finally threatened I'd have to go to bed and rest if I didnt behave.

That's a sad story gorey, your big day ruined. Hope your Confo went a good bit better.

The girl at the back in the centre has a fantastic angelic pose, hands joined and eyes turned Heavenward do you know whatever became of her?

It was actually 3 years ago. :D
Anyway, the original scan is very small Sinead, so that's the clearest I can get it.

Ive edited it myself and the best I can come up with is that it might be Mary Murphy from Sallynoggin. Im not 100% sure.
If it is her she sadly died at the early age of 35/40 from an asthma related heart attack.

My sister lives beside Teresa brock, who was also in that class - I'll get her to have a look at the pic.

Thanks for that Strum. Does Toby still post? I am curious about the date of this picture, I think it is later than 1943. 1943 was still a war (emergency) year, these girls are well dressed and I don't think they would have been in 1943.
