Ah No Strum,

Off topic posts are only at their best when they are totally off topic!! They would loose the spontanity if we went to the trouble of putting them in an Off topic section. Easy knowing you are not a woman - our whole existance if off topic!!!

Hate to say it but...Clonakilty white pudding and sausages do it for me. I boil the sausages up first to get most of the fat out then drain on kitchen paper then fry...gorgeous......I saw a Hicks in Dalkey the other day...are they the same stuff...didn't have time to go in and look ??

Yeah, Hicks in Dalkey are the same family. Ed Hick's brother Donal runs the Dalkey shop. My local for the weekend fry.

Grammer:

Have you ever tried the sausages from Doyles downstairs
in the shopping center in Dun Laoghaire? They are very
tasty.

I don't know what any of yis look like, except for the beautiful Dancer, who obviously doesn't live on sausages. But I can imagine that sausage addicts would waddle and fart all day.
Does this put me in the same glorious league as Johndle and Grammer?       johndllle

I dont mean any disrespect to the mans memory
but -did Brendan Behan do more than his share to keep the drunken Irishman image alive ?????
I suppose Shane McGowan could be included -but he is not really Irish is he -as far as I know he is from the UK?????

Interesting ...I think we look at it from our little island perspective. I have a English younger friend who hung out with a wide circle of arty friends, in London, late 80's early 90's, including Shane McGowan and she thinks he is a genius.

Brendan Behan was a drinker, but he was of his time. I think
he drank to cover a shyness. Shane McGowan was born in
London but his parents were/are Irish, like Behan I think
McGowan uses drink as a shield. McGowan is quite a nice
person to meet. I think Brendan Kennelly used drink in
the same way until he was warned off it. There must be
something in the Irish make up that we produce so many
of this type.
Having said this I wouldn't like to have been married to
any of them.

Why? Because he was a drinker who became famous? You can't pin that one on Brendan Behan alone.
Do you want a list?
