is'nt the town now one useless dump ???????
unless you want to shop in pennys or dunnes or shaws -what else is there????????

D/L R.I.P

Ye, Grammer, it's really sad......and depressing...the seafront is lovely..but the town???????? Dunnes, maybe..always end up going to Cornelscourt. 'cos they never seem to have what I want. (SHHHH.... my youngest works for them.) Penney's is a dump..always end up in the Dundrum Centre one..great store there...Shaws, even though I''m in that age bracket, even I find it old-fashioned, every time I go there, I walk out empty-handed...so a shopping trip wasted. The cobblestones, I worked for the company, Roadmakers Civil Engineers, who put the first lot of cobbles there. Then you couldn't walk there without risking life and limb.....even Nia had a nasty fall, tripped over a badly laid cobble. When I started to get back 'on my feet, after I broke my leg last year, walking along the town was like walking through a minefield. I spent more time looking at the ground than the shops. I always seem to end up asking myself why I went there, getting in the car and going somewhere else....except for Hicks, can't beat the sausies and pudding....Yum. My biggest gripe, the wall around the Church, some weird people hang out there..... :(

Can we try and stay on topic please folks, and not startup new threads if there is already something similar.
I know it's difficult to find old topics sometimes BUT the search feature, top right on all pages, is extremely accurate.
Just type a keyword in, say, bus, and every single post on the site with the word bus will display with the keyword "bus" highlighted.
Try it! Thanks. :D

An Obituary printed in the London Times - Interesting and sadly, rather true.

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense , who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:
- Knowing when to come in out of the rain;
- Why the early bird gets the worm;
- Life isn't always fair;
- and maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge).
His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children.

It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death, by his parents, Truth and Trust, by his wife,Discretion, by his daughter, Responsibility, and by his son, Reason.

He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers;
I Know My Rights
I Want It Now
Someone Else Is To Blame
I'm A Victim

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone. If you still remember him, pass this on. If not, join the majority and do nothing

Well common sense didn't work for me last week.
I know some members here have a fondness for Taxi Drivers,
but last week my friend got a cab from the rank on Marine Road, briefly stopped to pick me up in Sallynoggin, (on the roadside) on the way to Ballybrack.
€16:50. A 20 minute drive at most. That's €50 an hour. Fkrs! BAH! :evil:

That's bad Misti. :|

It just occured to me...why do we tip Taxi Drivers anyway???? Waiters/Waitresses, Hairdressing juniors, fair enough because they are giving you a personal service and their wages are crap anyway, but a 20 minute drive and a tip aswell??? Ummmm...I don't get that now.
Why not tip Bus drivers etc then? No wonder they are not getting the work.
Grammer, the Graduate/Lodge to Ballybrack €8:50 I recall...a five minute drive? BAH!
The Bus Fare for the same distance is €1:60...the Taxi...€16:50.
So what are we actually paying for? The comfort of a car ride? The convenience? The Feul?

I'm not dissing all Taxi Drivers. They have helped me over the years in many good ways, but c'mon it's not that they're gettin NO work these days,
it's that they're getting LESS money than before.

I'm going to start saving the money I'm not going to spend on Taxis in the future and maybe I'll get a foreign holiday sometime. :D

Folks, it is not the Taxi driver who sets the rate it is the Taxi Regulator. The same person who issues plates ad lib without let or hinder or background check. I am told that the Regulator now wants those with 7 seaters to remove the seats and have only 4. If this is true what is the logic of it? Wheelchair accessable plates were issued to beat the band but ablebodied persons cannot climb into them!
Like Misti my home was affected by deregulation - the plate was my husband's pension - vanished like the mist overnight. The Pension Plan, paid for 30 years, suddenly goes from a 'verbal' guarantee of at least 100.00. pound per week to 109 Euro per month.
Good job I worked.

Told ye before get a receipt when you think you are being overcharged,by law the driver MUST give you a proper receipt. On that note of Taxi Drivers I got one from Cherrywood to Ballybrack Village and it wasn't the price of it BUT THE FECKER DID'NT KNOW WHERE THE BLOOMIN HELL HE WAS GOING ?????? :x and he had a GPS ?????? :evil: but hardly spoke a word of English ...... how on god's earth are these fella's getting Taxi's ??????????????? :shock: :shock: The Taxi regulator has a lot to answer for ....a woman who has probably no idea how to run the service.
